#1611 NEMLIG!!!
The Fall of the Roman Empire.

"The Video: Sizing Up the Picture Warner has done it again. I continue to be greatly impressed with their catalog remasters, and 'Battle of the Bulge' is another one of those titles that just looks far better than any film from 1965 has a right to.
The studio offers up another pair of identical 1080p/VC-1 encodes for the Blu-ray and HD DVD releases, both presented in the film's ultra-wide 2.76:1 aspect ratio. The source is in pristine shape, with blacks surprisingly consistent and contrast excellent. I expected a lot of heavy grain and considerable inconsistency, but the image holds firm throughout. Colors are excellent as well. Right from the opening monochromatic title sequence, the cleanliness and vibrancy of primary hues is pretty amazing -- reds especially have such pop that they rival a new film. Fleshtones, too, look natural and accurate.
Of course, there are a few age-related deficiencies. The print can waver a bit, but it's only really noticeable on large patches of color, and even then, the issues are minor. The image, while sharp, sometimes looks a bit too processed, but that's partly due to the film's dated rear-screen photography. If anything, this transfer is too good. Matte lines are now painfully obvious, and there is a bit more grain during any shot featuring optical composites. But nevermind that, 'Battle of the Bulge' looks excellent." http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/759/battleofthebul...

What you'll see on the Blu-ray of The Wizard of Oz is the sharpest, most highly resolved and most visually perfect representation of the film...
Ever!
And then we move to audio, which used the same mixes prepared for the earlier version, original cleaned-up mono, as well as a 5.1 stereo mix derived from a myriad of surviving elements. Only now in Dolby True HD uncompressed.
Allow me to be quite honest. I've never seen a 1939 print of The Wizard of Oz, so I have no idea what it looked like. My earliest point of reference is 1954, the initial safety release. I have on GWTW, but that may well have been a totally different artistic animal. I mention this because I'm unable to tell you whether this replicates the original experience. But that really isn't the point with this film.
Going directly to the bottom line, you're about to see something that audiences in 1939 never saw. Sharper, perfectly registered, and more consistently colored than anything that has ever existed.
Buy it. Enjoy it. Support film restoration by doing so. And after you screen your new acquisition bend slowly toward Burbank and bow deeply, thanking Jeff Baker, George Feltenstein, Ned Price and the gang at MPI for the gift that they have created for you.
Seriously. How often are you going to find a studio that goes back to square one and re-performs an entire visual restoration because they feel they can eek just a tiny bit more out of the original elements to preserve the film again, and create a Blu-ray that can not be bettered!
This is a cinephiliac's nirvana.
Extremely Highly Recommended!
