Second, the premise sat back then was for a much more innocent age without the constant violence of console games, movies etc. The thought of overcoming ones fears etc. worked well back then. Today, with everything that has to be coated in the insane exaggerated manner Hollywood is currently applying to most of its films, this would become a film that would try too hard to have the same soul but fail because of its set up.
Karate Kid is in no way something people want, especially when you take the main character and apply an ethnicity that somehow doesn't make sense. Don't get me wrong, it's not that it's a black kid instead of a white one. It's that the back culture that SEES such films are also very typical, so this naturally falls victim of the usual political correctness that's just a growing cancer in the industry.
No to Karate Kid remake, Yes to Jackie Chan, No to Jaden Smith (anyone seen his acting? It's like a child version of his dad who can't act! It's horrible!)
My bet is that this film if it's make, will be promoted like all the failed "Black and Asian combo films". Rush hour worked only the first time around, there after it got old real fast.
That just my opinion. Oh and Jaden Smith isn't an actor, he's the victim of Scientology... Make a movie about that and I'll watch it. ;)
