This is getting way out of hand...

Somewhere, somehow, somebody went too far. And nobody is going to convince me that this teal look is what Jackson wanted until the point in time that Jackson is standing in front of a calibrated display that's showing the actual FOTR EE Blu-ray, pointing to the snow and clearly stating that he WANTED the snow to be that godawful teal color.

Lidt mere "udvikling"

En bruger skriver:
You were fully aware of the EE FOTR Blur-ray teal/green/cyan color shift controversy when you posted your review yesterday. Yet, all you did was give the "studio line" about how new color timing had been approved by Jackson. You took zero time to investigate or delve into the subject in your review. This, despite the fact that that sort of information is EXACTLY what your audience was hoping for.

Bill Hunt svare tilbage:
Yes, I was aware of it. Interestingly, it's NOT the "studio line." The studio hasn't commented.

Wrong. I skipped the studio and went directly to sources close to Jackson to see if I could find out what was ACTUALLY going on with the color timing, rather than doing my research (and drawing all my conclusions) through screenshots posted to internet forums and second-hand complaints by angry forum members, most of whom have not actually even seen the discs. I did this knowing that there's a history of these angry screenshot campaigns not exactly being accurate. Sure enough, when the discs arrived, they looked nowhere near as bad as some of the screenshots would lead you to believe.

And I checked with others I knew actually had the discs to see if they could confirm my observations. They did. Just this evening, film restoration expert Robert Harris had this to say on HTF:

"To my eye, there may be a point or two toward cyan-blue, but nothing like what I'm seeing in the youtube example. Skies are generally a pleasant blue, flesh tones, even for non-humans are normal, greens are strong. I presume they're not in Kansas anymore. Detail is superb, recognizing the fact that we're dealing with 2k. I'm seeing no problems whatsoever. A beautiful and satisfying image. Projected via a JVC RS50 recently tuned by my go-to expert Kevin Miller, on a Stewart white 1.3."

First, apparently this means you aren't likely to be convinced you're wrong even if Peter Jackson were to weigh in on the matter himself (which I'm told he may do). Second, could it be that since people like myself and Robert aren't seeing the extreme green tint (evidenced in some of these screen shots) on the actual discs when viewed on properly calibrated monitors, and people didn't see it either in the theatrical screenings, that maybe it's actually not there? Industry friends I trust who were at the theatrical screenings last night said they did notice small color timing changes in the presentation - much as Robert describes in his comments (as "a point or two toward cyan-blue") but nothing as bad as what these screenshots are showing. I would say my observations are that Robert's comments are accurate as well - there's a slight change in the timing, but not nearly as bad as what these screenshots are showing. Believe me, when I saw the screenshots myself, I WAS actually horrified. But that is NOT what I'm seeing on the actual discs. That's not what Robert is seeing either. I suppose it could be that some copies that leaked out early were defective. It could also be that some of these screenshot projects aren't accurately capturing what's actually on the disc. I don't know.

You're so busy being outraged, and chiming in here about my supposed lack of professionalism, that I wouldn't expect you to have any idea what I'm actually doing. You would be surprised at how much work I do behind the scenes that people never know about because I don't talk about it in public forums and I don't Tweet about it every 5 seconds. What I know is that I'm not seeing the creeping green screenshot horrors on the actual discs on my professionally calibrated display. I know Robert isn't. What I'm seeing on the actual discs isn't a travesty, and seems to me consistant with what I'm told actually happened, which is that Jackson and Lesnie made small changes to the color timing and approved the master and that's it. I've asked for them to clarify or comment, or to look into the issue themselves, and I'm wait to hear back from Wingnut. Meanwhile, if you don't think I'm sufficiently outraged to meet your high standards, that's too bad, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. Nevertheless, my quick comment on the subject in the review came at the end of hours of investigation and your sarcasm really doesn't have any bearing on that.

Bluray.com's review er oppe
Her linkes blot til FOTR, da det er den som er den, som "lider" mest under ændringerne, virker ikke til de andre har samme problem.
