Den legendariske satiregruppe Monty Python var kendt for at turde at gøre grin med alt. De kristne dogmer fik blandt andet tørt på i “Life of Brian” fra 1979. Men blev John Cleese – tidligere Monty Python-medlem – i dag spurgt om at lave en lignende satire over islam, så ville han nok sige nej tak.

I et interview til Politiken fortæller John Cleese, at han mener, der er blevet lavere til loftet, for hvad man i dag kan tillade sig:
”Hvis ‘Monty Python’ i dag lavede ‘Life of Muhammed’ i stedet for ‘Life of Brian’, ville nogen af os sandsynligvis blive dræbt. Det er ikke en moralsk overvejelse, men et faktum, der får dig til at overveje, om det er noget, du vil gøre,” siger Cleese.
Det er særligt det nylige terroranslag imod redaktionen på det franske satiremagasin Charlie Hebdo i Paris, der gør indtryk på den hæderkronede komiker, som har gjort så tykt grin med en religiøs figur som Jesus.
”Når det skete mod Charlie Hebdo, der er et lille magasin med et lille oplag i Paris, hvordan ville det så ikke være, hvis vi lavede en film,” siger Cleese.
På spørgsmålet om man bør tage hensyn til religiøse følelser i forbindelse med film og kunst, siger Cleese:
”Man skal ikke beskytte folk mere, end de har godt af. Og det er ikke ret meget.”
